E J says…
Chloe is a good cop. She is shot by a burglar while she and her partner are rushing to a crime scene. On the way to the hospital she dies and four minutes passes before she is revived. During that time, something changes and to her horror, she now sees the ghosts of dead people.
But her steep drop into the paranormal side of life doesn’t stop there, eventually encompassing magic and werewolves in a dramatic climax.
Chloe is sassy and believable. The setting is realistic. I got caught up in the story and accepted the supernatural aspects as genuine — at least while I was reading. The snappy and sarcastic repartee between Chloe and her partner and Chloe and her brother has all the fun aspects of positive relationships. A love interest develops but with its own surprises, so I won’t spoil that part.
Although there is a second book in this series, Circle City Magic Book 1 stands on its own, and is a satisfying read.
