Travel thru the Multiverse, and This Book Sets You Up – Migration by Justin Alexander Alt

Kate says… A scifi story usually gives you one big idea beyond today’s technology. This book gives you two. Human consciousness – the complete person – can be transferred to the cloud (that amorphous concept so many authors love,) and a dimensional “ship” built into a cargo container can travel to alternate Earths in alternate universes.

The book starts a series, and eases into the story. After a horrible accident, tech-CEO Michael’s mind is migrated into computers, but when his body and brain unexpectedly survive his injuries, his cloud-self wants his physical-self gone to avoid power struggles. (More on that in later books.) Lucky guy, his genius partner has invented a multiverse-traveling machine.

The book presents a soft ending rather than a conclusion. More to come in the rest of the series, which usually irritates me. I like a book, even one in a series, to tie up at least some significant plot threads. But I found the tale fascinating (even if not exciting) as Michael discovers the details of his new, dimension-transcending home and discusses the ethics and philosophy of what he’ll do on his journey. I read every word (and I’m a chronic skimmer), so that’s enough for me to recommend the book. If you enjoy discovering a story’s world, check it out, and perhaps follow Michael on through the series.
