Kate says… There are a lot of books out there: really, really a lot of books, in many genres. Shepherd is a site that helps readers find books of all genres, and they recently asked 884 authors and super-readers what their three favorite reads were in 2023 (not necessarily released in 2023.) Something that struck me was how few “likes” it took to make the list. Demon Copperhead is wildly popular, listed on Amazon as Coming of Age and Historical Fiction. Yet, of Shepherd’s 884 reviewers, it got 28 votes. Only 28 votes, I’d say. #100 is Warriors into the Wild, a fantasy listed as Children’s Action & Adventure with cat characters, got two votes.
About a third of the Top 100 books were chosen by (only) two reviewers as favorites. In the individual genre lists, only 1 fave was mostly needed. Not a scientific survey, sure, but I was surprised.
