The Burning Witch by Delemhach

This book is the start of a new mini series. The author has switched to writing a female character. It stretches the author to write in another gender, but authors have to be more distant when they do this because no one can really portray another gender correctly when things get intimate.

That notwithstanding, this was an enjoyable book to read. Just not as fun or nowhere near as trenchant in its observations on human nature as the first series, The Kitchen Witch, with a male protagonist. Sorry, I know people will disagree, but I have yet to read something that can really get into it from another gender’s point of view. Doing some scenes in a book is quite possible. And, as I noted earlier, if you don’t get into deep point of view, you can get by just fine. But then, a more shallow treatment is what you have. As this book shows, that can still be a fine story.

This constitutes a light fantasy that can easily be read in an evening. The main character has some interesting attributes that were new to me, and the author’s style is unique.
